Sawtry is situated just west of the route of the old Great North Road and the A1(M)trunk road, halfway between Huntingdon and
Peterborough, at the westernmost edge of the fens - originally the 3 parishes of All Saints, St. Andrews and St. Judith.
It is a large village with many historic properties. The beautiful church of All Saints was built in 1880. Amongst the many sites of archaeological interest are the Romano-British settlement - under the A1, and the site of a Cistercian Monastery (demolished in King Henry's time) which is clearly visible. There is also a Scheduled Ancient Monument known as Sawtry Moat and Shrunken Medieval Village which runs alongside the new motorway.
Sawtry Parish Council was awarded Quality Parish Status in July 2005.
